Founded in 1994 by the Kovács family, St. Donat Estate is rooted in a winemaking tradition that spans generations. With ancestral ties to Csopak and the Káli Basin, the family carries forward a deep love for vineyards and the art of winemaking.
What began as a modest 3-hectare vineyard in Csopak has grown into a 15-hectare estate with additional parcels in Paloznak, Tihany, and the Káli Basin. The estate focuses on organic viticulture, minimal intervention winemaking, and sustainability, producing wines that honor the unique volcanic and limestone-marl terroir of the Balaton region.
Over the years, St. Donat has introduced iconic vineyard selections, contributed to the creation of the Csopaki Kódex – a hallmark of quality for the region—and embraced innovative practices like short skin contact and unfiltered bottling. Their wines are a testament to the harmony of nature, history, and craftsmanship, offering a sensory journey that reflects the breathtaking landscapes of the Balaton.
Under the stewardship of winemaker-owner Tamás Kovács, the estate is committed to preserving the region’s rich heritage for future generations, guided by the spirit of St. Donatus, their Roman patron of vineyards.
