Pinot Noir from Küszöb Orra, grown on red sandstone soil at an altitude of 260 meters.
Medium intense bright ruby color with purple highlights. The nose is intense with powerful oak spices of vanilla, nutmeg cacao, hints of the sweet woody character of caramel, and tobacco. Fruits are opening up after the oak character with a darker fruit profile than expected from a classic pinot—ripe dark cherry and plum with dark chocolate and mocha. Dry on the palate with fresh acidity and muscular rustic tannin. The palate is spice-driven with baking spices chocolate and dark berry fruits. The finish is tannin-dominant with concentrated flavors. (Tamás Czinki MS)
Winemaking
Two weeks of skin maceration in open vats with manual punch-downs, followed by gentle pressing. Malolactic fermentation took place in both tanks and barrels. Aged in 500-liter French and Stockinger oak barrels, first and second fill. Bottled after gentle filtration in early December 2022.
Vintage
An excellent vintage where everything aligned perfectly. The coolest spring since 1997 lasted until June, accompanied by ideal rainfall. Blooming occurred at the end of June, by which time summer had sufficiently warmed up. July and August were particularly hot, with temperatures around 35°C, leading to weaker fruit set and looser cluster structures. Harvest took place without rain. This vintage stands out for its wines characterized by low pH, vibrant acidity, rich aromas, and remarkable concentration.
